SACRED VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGnD3Vaph2I

This is ‘SACRED’, my new song and video created in honour of my homeland and to sharemy voice so that yours can continue to be heard.

“This magnificent song is about us and now. Elly Hoyt ‘s childhood was spent in and around the beautiful Lapoinya forest in Tasmania. In 2016 Elly returned to find the forest flattened and the wildlife gone to profit a Malaysian logging company. Her sister, Jessica, and friends had been arrested and faced jail for peacefully protesting the destruction. ‘Sacred’ is a call to us all not to let this happen to what’s left of our natural Earth. It is a powerful and inspiring anthem, a call to action – for we have the whole world in our hands.” - Bob Brown, The Bob Brown Foundation

Please read on, it’s important…

New anti-protest laws introduced across our country last year mean not only harsher penalties, but searches, arrests and even prison sentences for standing up for what is important to us. These laws attack our right to peaceful protest, crumbling the foundations of our democracy.

I know this because my sister Jessica, along with Bob Brown and others, was arrested for peacefully protesting logging in the forest of my home, Lapoinya, Tasmania last year. It was later destroyed and I came home from America to devastation. My home and what felt like my heart, was cut out and thrown into the wind.

But there is hope… Bob Brown has launched action in the High Court of Australia to overturn these anti-protest laws, so that “Australians remain free to take a stand on important issues we all care about” http://www.bobbrown.org.au/lapoinya_goes_to_full_high_court_hearingI’ve included some links below if you’d like to know more.

“Elly Hoyt’s new song, ‘Sacred’ is a poignant and timely reminder of our responsibility to be custodians of this country and not exploiters. What is happening in Lapoinya, is a clear reminder of our responsibilities to a shrinking natural world. At a time when carelessness seems to be growing and evolving in an ever-heating World, this song is both beautiful and sorrowful and a rallying call. A stunning voice and recording, accompanied by a simply shot but powerful video”. - Shane Howard, Goanna Arts
