New anti-protest laws introduced across our country last year mean not only harsher penalties, but searches, arrests and even prison sentences for standing up for what is important to us. These laws attack our right to peaceful protest, crumbling the foundations of our democracy.
I know this because my sister Jessica, along with Bob Brown and others, was arrested for peacefully protesting logging in the forest of my home, Lapoinya, Tasmania last year. It was later destroyed and I came home from America to devastation. My home and what felt like my heart, was cut out and thrown into the wind.
But there is hope… Bob Brown has launched action in the High Court of Australia to overturn these anti-protest laws, so that “Australians remain free to take a stand on important issues we all care about” http://www.bobbrown.org.au/lapoinya_goes_to_full_high_court_hearingI’ve included some links below if you’d like to know more.
